It seems this weekend was all about the reverse engineering of Adobe’s create suite. this video talks about Revit to a point that I started feeling I need to suggest a new feature for pyRevit, to recreate Revit!
Devloai would eat credits like a cookie monster. If I get the chance, I would probably add RevitAPI access to Stairs, Ramps and Railings.
Honestly, Revit isn’t worth recreating. There is 20 years of old tech that need to be redone from the ground up.
For example… 4D
Yes. Revit has phases, but that isn’t 4D. So much lacking there that it isn’t worth recreating. As an example Families need 4D visibility. Doors for instance can have a swing at 45 or 90 in a view, but it will be the same in all views. It needs to open and close. And then there is just the antiquated way it does an infill when you demo a door or window. That’s been a pita since day one
And what about a feature like Fusion that retains your design history but allows you to graphically shuffle the order of your decisions for a different result. Yes, simpler the cadcam, but something Revit needs.
Likewise the file format and distributed work could be much more robust. It is way too linear right now. For true collaboration you need a way that different team design decisions can be reconciled.
I actually blocked out a modern 4D BIM white paper with AI and it was enlightening Revit is top dog right now, but there is plenty left to do that Revit could be unseated.
