Element in Parent View or Dependant View

Hey All,
Has anybody dealt with this? Where when you query the OwnerViewId of an element on a dependent view it outputs the parent View Id rather than the dependent View? Has anybody successfully gotten the dependent view Id from an element in the dependant view?
